Kazakhstan develops a tool to forecast demand for new air routes
The developers analyzed data from 200 million flights over the past five years, along with around 170 airline reports, to build the system.
The platform takes into account regional economic conditions, population size, consumer preferences and major events that can affect passenger traffic.
The model was developed by Kazakhstan-based company Echelon Alpha in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It is designed to assess air travel demand, transit potential and the prospects of new routes.
The platform goes beyond aviation statistics. Its forecasts also factor in regional macroeconomic indicators, population figures, consumer preferences, business activity and major events that could influence passenger flows.
The analysis draws on open and commercial sources, as well as geomarketing data. According to Echelon Alpha founder Rakhman Asambayev, the platform can achieve forecasting accuracy of up to 90%.
The tool allows airlines and aviation authorities to assess the potential of a new route in advance, forecast passenger demand and identify routes with strong transit potential.
