100 more schools join Turkmenistan's Green School programme
Another 100 schools have joined the Green School programme in Turkmenistan. The initiative now includes 120 schools nationwide.
The programme was launched in April 2025 following the signing of a memorandum between Turkmenistan's Ministry of Education and UNICEF. The pilot phase initially involved 20 schools.
As part of the programme, schools are introducing energy-saving measures, promoting responsible water use, and integrating environmental education into the learning process. Students also take part in environmental protection projects.
The Ministry of Education and UNICEF plan to expand the programme to 500 schools by 2030. With around 1,900 general education schools currently operating across Turkmenistan, the initiative could eventually reach about one in every four schools nationwide.
