Kazakhstan Unveils Solar-Powered Off-Grid Charging Station for EVs
Astana unveils a fully off-grid solar-powered EV charging station that operates independently of the city’s power grid.
The station is located at the Alatau Sports Complex in Astana and was developed by Kazakhstan-based company BOLASHAQ POWER. According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, it is the first fully off-grid solar-powered EV charging station in the CIS.
The facility operates independently of the city’s power grid. It combines 100 kW of solar generation capacity with energy storage systems holding 645 kWh.
From One Station to a Nationwide Network
Authorities are considering deploying similar facilities along major national highways, in cities, at industrial sites and other infrastructure facilities.
Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mansur Oshurbayev said the goal is to move beyond individual pilot projects and scale up green technologies across the country.
“We need to build not just individual green facilities, but an entire low-carbon infrastructure where renewable energy, electric transport, innovative technologies and carbon projects work as one system,” he said.
According to Oshurbayev, solar-powered charging infrastructure can both support the growth of electric transport and reduce the carbon footprint associated with its use.
