UN Establishes International Day for Safe AI at Tajikistan’s Initiative
The UN General Assembly has established the International Day for Safe, Secure and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.
Tajikistan was the driving force behind the resolution.
The new international day will be observed annually on August 31, starting in 2027. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence and encourage international cooperation in this field.
The date was chosen for a reason. On August 31, 1955, researchers proposed the Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence, one of the landmark initiatives in the history of AI. The project is also widely associated with the emergence and popularization of the term “artificial intelligence.”
